Blue Mountains Heritage Rail Trail brochure
A Blue Mountains Historical Society project, initiated by Christopher Webber https://www.facebook.com/christopher.webber2
Sponsored by Lithgow and Blue Mountains City Councils.
Christopher Webber advises that after about a year’s work, the brochures have arrived and the Blue Mountains Heritage Rail Trail has been declared open. You can download the brochure here: BMRailTrail-Brochure. The trail connects 13 sites between Lapstone and Lithgow and on to Oberon. The NPWS is continuing to upgrade the Wolgan Rail Trail with signs, a free downloadable audio guide, track and road improvements and visitor facilities. The website is www.bmrailtrail.info . It will soon be possible to walk or cycle through rail tunnels at both ends of the Blue Mountains. Although the Lapstone tunnel isn’t open at the moment, you can walk or cycle the Lapstone’s Zig-Zag or the railway construction tramway to the Bluff Lookout. Most walks are quite easy but there are overnight walks to Newnes on the Wolgan Trail, or you can do a circuit walk through the Glow Worm Tunnel and back via the carriage track.
