Bill Phippen will talk about the life of Kathleen M Butler, who, for many years, worked along side the NSW government engineer, John Bradfield, as his Confidential Secretary. Bradfield is often called the Father of Modern Sydney because of his role in building the Sydney Harbour Bridge, railways and other major works. Butler worked closely with and contributed significantly to his achievements.

Bill Phippen worked throughout his life in the construction industry. He was appointed Archives Manager of the Australian Railway Historical Society in 2010. Bill has written 5 well received books, winning the Colin Crisp Award from Engineers Australia in 2019 for his book, “Hawkesbury River Railway Bridges”.

Attending the talk costs $5 for non-BMHS Members while BMHS are free.
