Blue Mountains Branch of the National Trust (NSW)

When: Saturday 13 April 2019 at 8.30 am

Where: Meet in Springwood at the parking lot behind the Westpac Bank.

Leaving the Mountains we will proceed directly to Portland, site of one of the earliest cement works in Australia. John Low, a well-known local historian will give us a guided tour of the town, now a rather colourful sight with the Signs of Yesteryear on the shop walls and the murals on the silos in the grounds of the old cement works. We will fit in a ‘cuppa’ during the morning.

Returning to Lithgow, we will visit Eskbank House built in 1842 for Thomas Brown, the first industrialist in the town.

A picnic lunch will be served in the grounds and there will be time to explore the House Museum. This will be followed by a visit to the newly restored blast furnace where in 1886 the first iron and steel were cast in Australia.

The Hassans Walls lookout , with its spectacular views, will be the last stop of the day.

There will be a pickup at Wentworth Falls outside the Bowling Club. 9-9.15am
