A new display of historical photos and ephemera in the upstairs exhibition space at Everglades House. Since the 1930s Everglades has delighted audiences with hundreds of theatre performances. The gardens have been the spectacular backdrop for everything from ballet, opera, orchestra, dance troupes, circus festivals, pantomime – and its famous Shakespeare performances.
As part of the landscaping of the gardens in the 1930s, the stage was already set. With stunning views of the Blue Mountains, an outdoor theatre terrace was completed as part of the original design of the property.
This was at a time when other Art Deco theatres were being built all across Australia. Everglades continues to be a place of theatre and entertainment today, set against one of the world’s most picturesque outdoor theatres.
